Following a production of Pilgrims Musa and Sheri in the New World at the ACT theater in Seattle, I saw Yusef appear a panel discussion after the play and heard him mention he was originally from Egypt. Hearing this inspired me to really begin “The World In My Backyard” and Yusef was one of the first people I reached out to in hopes of recording his story. Although his father moved the family to England when Yussef was 4 years old, he returned to Egypt to attend university. Today, he is a nationally recognized playwright whose work is influenced by his background and unique global perspective.
